Elementary Band

5th and 6th grade

The Elementary Band consists of 5th grade beginners and 6th grade students. We rehearse 5th grade on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and 6th grade on Tuesdays and Thursdays. At certain times of the semester, we put the 5th and 6th graders together for rehearsal on Fridays. Students also receive time once a week in their sections to work with Mr. Angelo for 20 min., covering the essentials of their particular instrument. The band normally performs for the Holiday Concert in December and the All Unit Music Festival in May. There are also some in-school and out-of-school performing opportunities for 6th grade.

Jr. High Concert Band

7th and 8th grade

The Jr. High Concert Band consists of 7th and 8th graders at Galva Jr. Sr. High School. Students work together as a full band and receive time to rehearse in sections to allow for self-directed learning. Every student also receives either one-on-one or small group assessment time assigned to them during the school day. The band performs for the Holiday Concert in December, IESA solo and ensemble in March, the Spring Concert in March, and the All Unit Music Festival in May. Also, the band performs with the combined bands of the other schools in the LTC Conference for a festival held every other year.

Galva High School Wind Ensemble

9th through 12th grade

The Galva High School Wind Ensemble consists of 9th grade through 12th grade students at Galva High School. They receive daily instruction through full ensemble rehearsal and each student is assigned once a week assessments to get one-on-one instruction and evaluation. The wind ensemble has performed concerts at Galva, but also for the Geneseo Concert Band Festival and Music in the Parks in Gurnee, IL. The style of instruction, although we take on the name "wind ensemble", resembles that of chamber-style instrumental ensembles, which gives the students a greater individual responsibility in their performance abilities than a typical larger school ensemble.

The Marching Wildcats
